David Silverman received his Ph.D. from Columbia University working on magnetic resonance of solutes dissolved in membranes. Postdoctoral studies at Cornell University expanded this work to magnetic resonance of proteins and simple polypeptides. He joined the faculty of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at UF in 1971 and was appointed Distinguished Professor in 1999. His research on the catalytic mechanism of enzymes focuses mainly on proton transfer in fast enzyme catalysis, specifically in carbonic anhydrase and superoxide dismutase. Dr. Silverman teaches pharmacokinetics and for many years the pharmacology of antibiotics.
