2010 James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program Annual Report
Now Available
The Florida Department of Health is pleased to present the statutorily-mandated James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program 2010 Annual Report. The King Program funds highly meritorious research by offering tobacco-related research grants to eligible Florida researchers on a competitive basis.
Highlights of the report include:
- How the Program has proven to be an integral component of Florida’s larger investment in growing its technology-based economy in the biosciences;
- Leveraging awards, resulting in $155 million in non-state funding flowing into the state;
- Details on 42 new grants valued at $19.05 million to 14 different institutions in Florida;
- Cumulative measures of research outcomes including the publications of findings in prestigious journals and patenting activities; and
- Progress towards Program goals, particularly in the area of the prevention, early detection, treatment, and cure of tobacco-related illnesses.
In addition to the King Program, the Florida Biomedical Research Programs include the Bankhead-Coley Cancer Research Program and the Florida Center for Universal Research to Eradicate Disease (FL CURED).
